The government is currently drafting a regulation on work safety in the oil and gas industry as mandated by the 2001 Oil and Gas Law.

?The oil and gas law has been effective for 15 years, but the government regulation on (oil and gas) safety has yet to be issued. I?m assigned to complete (drafting the regulation),? said Director of Oil and Gas Technique and Environment at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Djoko Siswanto in a statement obtained Monday.

He stressed that work safety in the oil and gas industry is very important as stated in the oil and gas law which stipulates that oil and gas companies are required to ensure safety standard in line with existing regulation.

Djoko said that once the regulation on oil and gas safety has been issued, other related regulations will be abolished. ?So, there will only be one regulation,? he said, but did not provide details about the new regulation.
