Government plans more hydro power plant projects using dams

Nasri said in a statement Wednesday that the country?s water resources have potential to produce electricity of up to 75,000 MW, but so far only about 4,000 MW has been utilized (about 6%).
?In the near future, hydro power plants in several locations will be developed by the government and private investors,? he said.
The planned hydro power plant (PLTA) projects using dams are as follows.
? Sumatera : PLTA Peusangan 1 dan 2 (86 MW, planned COD 2018), PLTA Asahan 3 (174 MW, COD 2019), PLTA Wampu (45 MW, rCOD 2016), PLTA Batang Toru (510 MW, COD 2022), PLTA Merangin (350 MW, COD 2021), and PLTA Semangka (56 MW, COD 2018);
? West Java: To develop two units of upper and lower dam reservoirs to support PLTA Upper Cisokan with capacity of 1,040 MW, multipurpose dam and PLTA Jatigede (110 MW, COD 2019) and PLTA Rajamandala (47 MW, COD 2017);
? Sulawesi: PLTA Poso (195 MW, COD 2021), PLTA Malea (90 MW, COD 2020), PLTA Karama (150 MW, COD 2024) and PLTA Bonto Batu (45 MW, COD 2024);
? Papua: PLTA Genyem (20 MW, COD 2015) and PLTA Baliem (50 MW). New dams will also be developed in the province with combined power capacity of 8,400 MW until 2024.
