The government is planning to issue a new regulation on the use of clean coal technology in coal-fired power plants as part of efforts to reduce carbon emission.

This was said by Director General of Electricity Jarman to Petromindo.com on Tuesday. ?We?re preparing a regulation so that they use environmental-friendly technology (in coal-fired power plant projects),? he said.

Jarman said that coal-fired power plant with capacity of 600-1,000 MW will pushed to use supercritical technology, while those with capacity above 1,000 MW to use the ultra-supercritical technology. He did not provide further details.

The planned new regulation comes as the government, with the help of the World Coal Association and other international experts, is preparing a roadmap on how the country could apply a more environmental-friendly technology at its coal-fired power plants to help meet the country?s international commitment with regards to carbon emission reduction, while also increasing electricity output from coal to meet growing demand.
