Government plans tender for five geothermal working areas

The government via the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to offer to investors via tender five geothermal working areas this year.
The Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement obtained Tuesday that one of the geothermal working areas is the Gunung Hamiding geothermal working area in North Maluku Province, which is estimated to hold reserves of 265 MW, with development capacity plan of 20 MW.
The second is the Simbolon Samosir geothermal working area in North Sumatra, with estimated reserves of 150 MW and development capacity plan of 110 MW. The third is the Oka Ile Ange working area in East Nusa Tenggara Province with estimated reserves of 40 MW and development capacity plan of 10 MW.
The three geothermal power plant projects are targeted to start commercial operation in 2024, the statement said.
The two other geothermal working areas to be offered this year are the Bora Pulu working area in Central Sulawesi with estimated reserves of 123 MW and development capacity plan of 40 MW; and the Gunung Sirung working area in East Nusa Tenggara with estimated reserves of 125 MW and development capacity plan of 5 MW. The two geothermal power plant projects are targeted to start commercial operation in 2025.
