Government's mandatory biofuel use program to start in 2008

The government has appointed state oil and gas firm Pertamina, Anglo-Dutch energy firm Shell Plc and Malaysia?s firm Petronas as outstanding buyers under the mandatory biofuel use program expected to commence in early 2008, Investor Daily reported on Monday.
?Many biofuel industries have started production and therefore, compulsory use of biofuel can be started in 2008. Pertamina, Shell and Petronas have been appointed as outstanding buyers, which will run the (mandatory biofuel use) program, ? Evita H. Legowo, Senior Advisor of the Energy and Mineral Resource Minister and Secretary of the National Team for Biofuel, in Jakarta on Sunday.
The reason behind appointing the three companies was that the companies had experiences in selling bioethanol and biodiesel, she said.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and National Team for Biofuel targeted the mandatory biofuel use program to be run at least in Java, Sumatra and Bali. (*)
