Government signs MoUs for gas pipeline network development

The Directorate General of Oi and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed on Wednesday MoUs with nine regency and mayoralty administrations to facilitate the development of gas pipeline network serving households in the areas this year.

The directorate said in a statement that the nine regions include Musi Banyuasin, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI), Muara Enim, and Mojokerto regencies, and Bandar Lampung, Mojokerto, Pekanbaru, Samarinda and Bontang cities.

Director General of Oil and Gas IGN Wiratmaja Puja said that the development of gas pipeline network serving households forms part of the government?s efforts to provide cheaper and cleaner energy for the public. ?If possible, all of the nine regions would have already been installed with gas pipeline network,? he said.

The government this year, via state-controlled oil and gas firm PT Pertamina and gas distribution firm PT PGN Tbk, will develop gas pipeline networks to supply gas to a total of 60,000 households in a project worth Rp 1.4 trillion to be funded by the state budget. Construction is expected to start in the period of April-May.

The government has been developing gas pipeline network service household gas consumers since 2009. As of last year, a total of 185,991 households in 26 regencies/mayoralties in 14 provinces have been connected to the gas network.
