Government to accelerate permit for hydro power plant projects

In a bid to help speed up construction of new and renewable energy sources, the government plans to provide permit for hydro or mini hydro power plant projects even before the investors complete the construction or revitalization of the dam facilities, Tempo.co reported Tuesday.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and People?s Housing Taufik Widjojono said that the new regulation is expected to be completed by this month, to allow investors to start project development next year.
Out of the existing 261 dam facilities owned by the government, private investors have expressed interest to develop hydro power plants at 18 dams, he said.(*)
