Government to expand city gas network in Probolinggo next year

The government plans to connect 6,000 households (SR) with city gas network in Probolinggo, East Java, next year as a move to increase the utilization of natural gas in domestic market, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (MEMR) said.

So far this year, the government has connected 8,150 households in Probolinggo and Pasuruan regencies. The move has been welcome by the local governments.

"We, the Regency Government of Probolinggo, support it (the program) in the form of issuing permits and others, in cooperation with other stakeholders," Probolinggo Regency Head, Tantriana Sari said last week.

Tantriana added as many as 25,000 households are now ready to be connected with the city gas distribution network.

The gas will come from Madura Strait block, which is operated by Husky CNOOC Madura Ltd (HMCL), at volume of 0.2 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

Since 2009, the government has connected 404,139 households with the city gas distribution network. In 2020, the government has set a plan to connect 266,070 households in 14 provinces with the city gas distribution network.
