The government will focus on the development of 71 oil and gas basins located in the eastern part of the country in a bid to help increase future reserves.
This was said by Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ego Syahrial in a statement Thursday. He said that out of the total 128 oil and gas basins in the country, around half, or 71, all located in the eastern part of Indonesia, have yet to be developed.
?If we?re talking about future reserves strategy, we?ll of course focus on the 71 oil and gas basins located in eastern Indonesia,? Ego said.
He further explained that of the total 128 oil and gas basins, 20 have been in production. Around 40 have underwent drilling program, but have yet to reach commercial stage.
Meanwhile, of the 71 basins in the eastern part of Indonesia, 41 have yet to be drilled. He believes that the eastern part of Indonesia holds huge oil and gas reserves potential, but the region suffers lack of infrastructure facilities.
