Government to free leasing fee for hydro power plant projects

The Ministry of Public Works and People?s Housing has decided to free the leasing fee for investors planning to develop hydro power plant at dams managed by the ministry in a policy that is expected to help lure private investment into the sector.

Ministry spokesman Velix Wanggai said that there 18 dams out of the total 203 dams managed by the ministry where investors can develop hydro power plants with total capacity 200,000 MW. He added that the policy is also expected to help the government achieve its target of developing a combined 35,000 MW power plants until 2019.

One of the 18 dams is the Serayu dam in Banyumas, East Java, which has the potential to be converted into 100 MW power plant. (*)
