Government to issue ruling to regulate e-commerce in oil and gas

The government will soon issue a joint ministerial decree to regulate growing activities of e-commerce in oil and gas sectors in the country. The joint decree is needed because Indonesia has not yet possessed the so-called cyber law, according to State Minister for Communication and Information Syamsul Muarif.

As reported by Suara Karya on Tuesday, Syamsul said that his office had coordinated the issuance of the decree with other related government offices. "As we have yet possess a cyber law, we should have at least a joint ministerial decree to protect e-commerce transactions," he added.

According to him, the e-commerce in the oil and gas in the country has indicated a tremendous growth in recent years. At present the value of oil and gas traded through e-commerce has reached over US$5 billion.

He said that the ministry of industry and trade and the ministry of transportation and communications were preparing the draft of the e-commerce law. "At present, the study on the law has been completed," he said, "The next step, the draft would be studied by his office to ensure that the cyber law will not overlap with other legal products," he added.
