The government will speed up the issuance of a new regulation on the use and provision of electricity in the country to temporarily replace the electricity law, which was recently revoked by the Constitution Court, Investor Daily reported on Thursday.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the government's regulation would be used as an umbrella law to oversee the use and the provision of the electricity in the country.
"The regulation is being drafted, and we hope it could be issued before the opening of the Infrastructure Summit on January 17," he was quoted as saying. During the Infrastructure Summit, the government will invite investors to take part in the development of infrastructure facilities such as electricity distribution facilities and power plants, roads and seaports.
According to Purnomo, in the regulation, the state electricity company PLN will act as the single player in the electricity sector. However, private companies still have wide opportunities to be involved in the provision of the electricity in the country.
Purnomo said that in the regulation, the government would also enclose the blueprint of the country's electricity development plan as well as profiles of electricity projects, which would be offered to investors. (*)
