The government is committed to expedite the development of 293,533 units of gas network for households, known as Jargas program, in 54 cities across the nation in 2020 with total costs of Rp3.2 trillion.

The central government will need the support of the local governments to ensure the installation of the household gas network will go ahead smoothly.

Acting Director General for Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) Djoko Siswanto said the development of the gas network for household is in line with the National Energy Master Plan (RUEN) for period of 2015-2030.

The Jargas program is a national strategic project that can give direct benefits to the people as stated in the Presidential Decree Number 6, 2019 on the provision and distribution of natural gas through gas transmission to households and small businesses, said Djoko.

The volume of the household gas network units for 2020 is far higher compared to the Jargas units installed in the period of 2009-2018, which reached 325,852 units in 16 provinces and 40 cities/regencies.

"The volume is really significantly higher compared to the total Jargas units that have been installed in the past 10 years since 2009 until this  year," Djoko said.

The government has given tasks to the state energy company PT Pertamina through its subsidiary PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk to develop the gas network for household program.

PGN will soon prepare a front end engineering design (FEED) and detailed engineering design construction (DEDC), which are scheduled to be completed in October this year.

On Thursday (25/07), Director for Infrastructure and Technology of PGN, Dilo Seno Widagdo, and Director for Oil-and-Gas Infrastructure Development and Planning at the Directorate General for Oil and Gas, Alimuddin Baso signed a joint commitment to carry out the household gas network program.
