Government urged to apply anti-dumping duty on wire rods

Indonesia?s manufacturers of steel long products urged the government to apply anti-dumping duty on wire rods amid alleged dumping practices by overseas producers, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

The paper quoted Deputy Head of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) Ismail Mandry as saying that the government must protect the domestic industry against cheaper imported products.

He said that domestic wire rod industry has combined installed production capacity of 2.5 million tons, while production rate currently stands at 800,000 tons per year, compared to import of about 600,000 tons.

Ismail said that the association has proposed to the Indonesia Anti Dumping Committee to launch investigation into alleged dumping practices by overseas wire rod producers. (*)
