Government will guarantee PLN: Minister

Minister for the supervision of state enterprises Sugiharto has assured bidders of 10-coal fired power plants to be built in Java as part of the government's fast track program that the government will guarantee that state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will be able to pay the loans needed for the power projects.

Speaking during a briefing with local and foreign investors short-listed to take part in the tender for the power plant construction projects, Sugiharto said that as a state-owned company which provides services for the public, PLN would continue to get the government's supports.

As many as 43 local and foreign companies, mostly from China, have been short-listed to take part in the tender. They will visit the locations of the planned 10 power plant projects next week before submitting their respective bids.

The tender will be be announced in October of this year and the construction is expected to start in early 2007. (*)
