The power plant has two units, each with the capacity of 7.5 MW.
In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, the governor expressed appreciation to the firm for its willingness to build the power plant, noting that the power plant will help solve the power shortage now prevailing in the province. ?There are still areas in the province which have no access to power supplies,? he said.
He noted that the province has a lot of rivers which can potentially be developed to generate hydropower. The Malaysian state of Serawak, which is located close to the province, has successfully develop its hydropower resources, while North Kalimantan still lacks electricity despite the fact it has more plentiful rivers than Serawak.
He thus called on investors to develop the province?s hydropower potentials.
Meanwhile, SAS?s President Director Tria Suprajeni said the first unit of the power plant was completed within 13 months. The firm is now preparing to build the second unit.
