Irian Jaya governor Jaap Salossa said Sunday that James Moffett, shareholder and CEO of Freeport McMoRan had principally agreed to ?transfer? some shares of its subsidiary giant gold and copper mining PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) to Irian Jaya government, Antara reported Monday.
Jaap said Moffet had indicated willingness to transfer PTFI?s shares during a meeting with Taufik Kiemas, husband of President Megawati Sukarnoputri.
?Moffet had agreed to further discuss the detail in Jakarta in the near future, involving Irian Jaya government and central government and Freeport?s top officials,? Jaap told reporters after attending ?Houston Energy Dialog 2001? in Houston, Texas.
Jaap however, did not elaborate the mechanism of the transfer.
