Govt building gas connections to 24,000 houses in Surabaya

The project will be built by IDX-listed state owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) in 14 neighborhoods in the city using state budget. It will also be operated by PGN, the ministry of energy and mineral resources said in a statement.

In 2009, the government, using state budget built gas connections to 2,900 houses in two neighborhoods in the city, namely Kali Rungkut and Rungkut Kidul. The gas connections have been put under PGN?s management.

For this year, the government has allocated Rp 285.21 billion in budget for PGN to build gas connections to houses in various parts of the country. The gas connections measure 167,506 meters in total. The government has also assigned the state firm to operate and manage 43,000 gas connections to houses that have been built using state funds in ten cities, namely Bogor, low-cost apartments in Jabodetabek, Cirebon Palembang, Depok, Tarakan, Bekasi, Blora, Semarang and Sorong.

PGN?s President Director Hendi Prio Santoso said aside from the government-financed gas connections, PGN has also a program called ?PGN Loves Mothers? to build 110,000 gas connections in various parts of the country from 2016 through 2019 using its own funds.

In Surabaya, PGN has 14,955 household costumers, 192 commercial customers (hospitals, restaurants, hotels and malls), 142 small and medium business customers and 163 industrial customers

On Monday, Minister Sudirman, accompanied by Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini, also paid a visit to a power plant using as waste as source of energy in Benowo landfill. The power plant may produce up to 10 MW of power. The power plant has been operated by PT Sumber Organik since 2012 under a 20-year build-operate-transfer contract with the mayoralty.
