Govt closes down ASEAN Aceh fertilizer

The government has finally decided to close down fertilizer company PT Asean Aceh Fertilizer. The tragic decision was taken after it became clear that the company can?t be saved any more, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Thursday edition.

Through its letter No. S87-MBU/132005 dated Aug.5, 2005, the Office of the State Minister for State Enterprises has ordered PT AAF to close down. The letter was addressed to the government?s representative, Indonesian director in that company, which is jointly owned by ASEAN countries.

An Investor Daily source said the government agreed to the notion that the company can?t be saved. It also gave instructions to the AAF management to settle all the operational as well as legal aspects.

AAF has long suspended operations due to the lack of gas supplies.(*)
