The agency for environmental protection of the Samarinda municipal government has temporarily closed two coal mines operated by coal mining companies CV Bukit Pinang Bahari and CV Busur Abadi for failing to carry out reclamation in their former mining areas, Kaltim Post reported on Tuesday.
The agency?s head Endang Liansyah said in Samarinda on Monday that the two companies were given a month to carry out the reclamation and fulfill other environmental requirements.
Endang also said the environmental office had also issued a warning letter to other three mining companies including CV Baratama Makmur, PT Buana Rizki Armia and CV Bara Energi Kaltim, also because they failed to fulfill the reclamation obligation.
In addition, mining company PT Lanna Harita Indonesia had also been put under a special supervision because its mining activities had caused a mud flood which seriously affected the 'SMP 19' junior high school near the Siring river, Endang said.(*)
