The government is looking into the possibility of using gas as fuel for locomotives operating in the country, according to Director General of Oil and Gas Eddy Hermantoro.
Eddy said in a statement obtained Wednesday that a meeting with related parties will be held soon to discuss the plan, which comes following a recent visit to the US and locomotive cooperation agreement between state-owned rail operator PT Keretapi Indonesia and US-based General Electric (GE).
He said that the technology from GE will make it possible to use gas as fuel for locomotives. He added that if this could be realized, it would help expand the government?s petroleum fuel to gas conversion program.
