Govt considers supplying gas from East Kalimantan for Aceh fertilizer firms

Thursday, August 23 2001 - 03:15 AM WIB

Director general of oil and gas Rachmat Sudibyo said Thursday that the government was considering supplying gas from East Kalimantan for fertilizer manufacturers in Aceh.

Rachmat said that he had talked about this possibility with fertilizer firms in Aceh including PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, and PT Aceh Asean Fertilizer.

He did not provide details.

Reports earlier said that fertilizer firms in Aceh could not be able to obtain their gas need from the Pertamina-ExxonMobil facility as the latter was still focusing in meeting long-term overseas contract.

But the fertilizer firms have said that they could not wait until November.

The ExxonMobil gas facility has just resumed operation after it was shut down for several months since March due to security reasons in the troubled province.(Godang)
