Thailand's energy company Banpu Public Company Limited said Thursday that the Indonesian government environmental inspection team had recommended improving the water quality at its Trubaindo mine?s settling ponds to reduce the acid balance.
Banpu said based on the on-site fact finding, a high acid level was indicated at the Pit 3000 Block 10 settling pond of the mine. Trubaindo operates ten settling ponds in the mine, which is located in East Kalimantan.
Trubaindo has scaled this particular settling pond and is undergoing treatment process to restore the water quality, Banpu said.
It added that the restoration of water treatment system will neither incur significant financial expense nor disrupt the coal production process.
Trubaindo started commercial production in 2005, with output of 1.76 million tons of coal. Banpu owns 90 percent interest in the mine. (denny)
