The government is currently drafting a regulation that would limit the export of coal while increasing demand from the domestic market.
?We are finalizing the regulation on coal. A new policy will be issued this year,? Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said.
He said that there would be an export ban on certain calorific value of coal. Jero however did not elaborate on the proposed CV aimed for export ban.
The 2009 Mining Law requires the government to ban export of low rank coal by 2014.
Jero said that the governemnt would increase the total amount of coal sold to domestic market through the revision of the so-called domestic market obligation (DMO).
