The government has drafted nine decrees (PP) to implement existing electricity law, Law No. 20/2002, which was endorsed by the House of Representatives (DPR) early in September, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said in a parliamentary hearing on Wednesday.
They include decrees on competition zones for power producers; prohibition of power market domination; electricity production licensing; compensation for land and plants under transmission lines; electricity price; and electricity supervisory body.
Purnomo added the government had also drafted several codes on power grid and distribution, power project planning and tendering, power tariffs and metering.
The power law aims to gradually liberalize the power sector and boost investment.
The law allows licensed power producers to sell their electricity to the public by themselves or through agents. (godang)
