Govt drafts presidential regulation for 100 GW solar power

The government is currently drafting a presidential regulation on the development of 100 GW of solar power plants (PLTS), a mandate initiated by President Prabowo.
Sripeni Inten Cahyani, a member of the National Energy Council (DEN), said the draft regulation is still under discussion.
“It is currently being discussed—hopefully, we are proposing that the program be covered under a single presidential regulation to make it easier, as it would allow for more detailed provisions,” Sripeni said on the sidelines of the National Solar Transition Forum 2026 mini conference on Tuesday (April 21).
She explained that a clear legal framework is needed for the development of the 100 GW PLTS program, which is targeted for completion by 2029. The presidential regulation is expected to serve as the legal umbrella, as the program has not been adequately accommodated in the National Electricity General Plan (RUKN).

Meanwhile, Eniya Listiyani Dewi, Director General of New and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), said the government is currently discussing deregulation for solar power development in Indonesia.
“The government is providing support by introducing more streamlined regulations, and we are currently discussing solar power deregulation to ensure that the energy transition can proceed quickly and as expected,” Eniya said.
Eniya emphasized that the government will continue to encourage the growth of the domestic solar industry supply chain. This includes everything from module production and inverters to supporting components—ensuring that the entire solar industry ecosystem develops within Indonesia. This, in turn, is expected to create an ecosystem that boosts investment, financing, and human resource capacity.
