Govt expects for an agreement on geothermal power price in July

The government expects the state power company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to reach an agreement on the price of electricity with geothermal power producers in July of this year.

Director general of electricity J. Purwono said on Tuesday that currently there is still a price gap between the geothermal producers, which offer a price of 9 US cents per Kwh, and PLN, which is asking for a 7 cents per Kwh.

"We shall ask an independent team of appraisers to help calculate the price. The team will consist of the representatives of PLN and the geothermal association. Each of them will appoint their own consultants to calculate the price. They will then report the result to the team.

"The price will become PLN's own price estimation which in turn will be used reference in geothermal power tenders," he said. (Bernard)
