Govt extends geothermal concessions exploration period

Government has just issued Government Regulation No.70/2010 (PP70/2010) which extends exploration period of geothermal working areas to December 31, 2014.
PP70/2010 basically contains only one article that revised earlier Government Regulation (PP59/2007) that stated that geothermal concession-holders which failed to conduct drilling activities in their respective areas by October 21, 2010, must return their working areas to the government.
The PP70/2010 was issued to give chance to geothermal concession-holders to develop their working areas to meet national electricity demand.
Abadi Purnomo, CEO of Pertamina Geothermal Energy welcomed the new regulation adding that a number of geothermal companies could not be explored in time due to constraints such as lack of infrastructure and red-tape especially from the Minsitry of Forestry. (bernard)
