Govt gets House approval to increase 2010 subsidized fuel quota

The House of Representatives has formally approved of the government?s request to increase subsidized fuel quota this year by 1.87 million kiloliters (kl) to 38.37 million kl.

With the approval, the total volume of the subsidized Premium gasoline will be increased by 1.68 million kl and subsidized diesel oil by 1.68 million kl. However, quota for subsidized kerosene was reduced by 1.4 million kl.

The approval was made during a hearing between the House?s Commission VII and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Zahedi Saleh.

Although most of the political parties at the House endorsed the increase in the subsidized fuel quota, the House members criticized the government for the lack of control in the distribution of the subsidized fuels. (giok)
