President Abdurrahman Wahid said the government has no plan to delay implementation of a 12 pct fuel price increased scheduled for October 1, despite opposition to an increase from various groups.

"I personally don't like to see fuel price hikes. However, if we have decided to raise it, we have to be committed to the decision," Wahid said after Friday prayers.

He said a number of people and groups have come to him to ask for a stay in fuel prices. However, he said, the previous and current economic ministers have studied the plan thoroughly and the increase will go ahead as scheduled.

"It was a collective decision. We have to be prepared for the rise," Wahid said. (*)
