Govt hopes to sign first shale gas exploration contract in 2012

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is targeting to sign first shale gas working area contract in 2012, a senior ministry official said on Tuesday.

Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Legowo said that regulations for the unconventional gas? exploration and exploitation are being drafted.

Separately, Ministry?s Upstream Director Edy Hermantoro said that a number of companies have expressed interest to explore for shale gas in Indonesia. Edy said in Indonesia, shale gas prospects are located in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Papua. (alex)
