The government reached an agreement on Friday with the House of Representatives' special team on electricity rates to propose an average 29.43 percent rate increase starting April 1 this year.

Legislator Pramono Anung, who chaired the House's special team, said they also agreed to protect the low income households consuming a maximum electricity supply of 900 voltampere (watt).

"We are still discussing the 29.43 percent rate hike but 90 percent of us agreed on that," he told reporters.

The increase is below the 35 percent increase proposed by the government. It is also different from the government's proposal that only households consuming a maximum electricity supply of 450 voltampere was protected from the power price increase. (*)
