Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Susilo Siswoutomo, inaugurated on Wednesday a gas distribution pipeline to supply gas at a volume of 1,5 MMSCFD to almost 4,000 households in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

The gas supply is provided by Total E&P Indonesia and Inpex Corp from Mahakam Block in the East Kalimantan province.

The inauguration ceremony on Wednesday in Bontang was attended by East Kalimantan Governor Awang Farouk, Bontang Major Adi Darma, the energy and mineral resources ministry?s Downstream Oil and Gas Business Development Director Umi Asngadah, the ministry?s Information Center Head Ego Syahrial, Planning Bureau Chief Rida Mulyana, and downstream oil and gas regulator BPH Migas Gas Director Hendra Fadly.

Umi Asngadah said during the inauguration ceremony that the development of the gas distribution pipeline for households is part of efforts to diversify the energy sources away from the expensive but subsidized oil fuels (BBM).

"Such facilities have been provided in cities or regencies that have gas supplies or near to the gas transmission pipeline,? she said.

The development of Bontang household gas distribution is the seventh distribution pipeline of 13 such pipelines planned to be built. The other six facilities are expected to be also operated this year.

The household distribution pipeline systems have been developed since 2009. Now, there have been 57.000 households in several cities, mostly in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Java, that have been already served with the gas distribution systems.

She pointed out that the 57,000 households consisted of 3,311 houses in Palembang, 2,900 in Surabaya, 8,647 in Sidoarjo, 4,000 in Depok, 3,666 in Tarakan, 4,628 in Bekasi, 3,960 in Bontang, 4,172 in Sengkang, 5,234 in flats of Jabodetabek, 4,650 in Prabumulih, 4,000 in Jambi, 4,000 in Bogor, and 4,000 in Cirebon.

For such distribution development, local administration firms are prioritized to get the license for operation and management.
