The government has increased the purchase price of electricity produced by mini-hydro power plants (with capacity of 10 MW or below) in a bid to lure more investment into the sector, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said on Monday.

He said that the tariff has been increased to Rp 1,075 per Kwh (about 9 US cents) from Rp 656 per Kwh previously.

Director General of New Energy and Renewable Energy Rida Maulana added that the new tariff is only applicable for new projects, valid from year one to eight, after which the tariff will decline to Rp 775 per Kwh until year 20. (*)
