Govt issues presidential decree on Pertamina restructuring

State oil and gas company Pertamina's president Baihaki Hakim said the government had issued a decree on the new organization of Pertamina.
Baihaki said Monday morning the Presidential Decree No. 169/2000, which was issued on Thursday, cut down members of Pertamina's board of management to six from seven at present.
Under the new organization, Pertamina will be managed by one president director, who are assisted by director for upstream affairs, director for downstream affairs, director for developmental affairs, director for financial affairs and director for the management of contractors.
"Fifty percent of the members of the management board will be new faces. The candidates will undergo fit and proper tests, which will be supervised by myself," Baihaki said on the sidelines of the ceremony to celebrate Pertamina's 43rd anniversary.
He said President Abdurrahman Wahid would issue another decree on the names of the directors.
Rumors have it that Baihaki will retain its position as president director, while Gatot K. Wiroyudo will remain director for upstream affairs and Ainun Naim as financial director. Current director of processing Ariffi Nawawi will become director of downstream sector, which will merge the current directorates of processing, domestic fuel provision and general affairs.
According to the rumors, the directorates of development and contractors management will be chaired by new faces. (Godang)
