Govt issues regulation on indirect utilization of geothermal

The government has issued new Government Regulation No 7/2017 on the indirect utilization of geothermal, which was signed by President Joko Widodo on February 21.

The Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement obtained Thursday that the regulation defines indirect utilization as the utilization of geothermal through conversion process from heat energy and or fluid.

According to the regulation, the central government via the ministry holds authority in the development of indirect utilization of geothermal across the country.

The authority of the government covers the areas of national policy, regulation, permit, supervision, geological data and information management, estimating geothermal reserves and resources, exploration and exploitation, and encouraging research and development.
