The government may take to court state companies which continue buying coal from illegal miners for their projects, a source told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday.

?The government could sue them in court if they do not pay heed to its warning,? the source said.

The source said the government team tasked with curbing illegal coal mining had sent a letter to state companies which used coal as their source of energy and asked them not to use coal from illegal miners. The state companies include power firm PLN and cement companies.

The government had launched a special program to curb growing activities of illegal coal producers.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced early this month it would issue periodically the names of licensed coal mining firms that had started production activities.

Presently, 46 coal mining companies operate under coal contract of work (CCW), the source said. (godang)
