Govt offers coal railway project to Australian investor

The Transportation Ministry offers investment opportunities to Australian companies to build a coal railway project in Kalimantan and Sumatra, Investor Daily reported.

 

“We have exposed and offered investment opportunities in the building of special coal trains to investor delegates led by the Australian Trade Minister,” said Soemino Eko Saputro, Director General of Railway Affairs, in Jakarta on Monday.

 

Australian investors are interested in exploring transportation business in Indonesia, including special coal trains because the opportunities are very huge, he went on.

 

Last week, The Ministry of Transportation also offered the coal transportation projects in Kalimantan to Russian government.

 

“We offered the project of building of special trains for carrying coal in Kalimantan to an economic bank team of the Russian government because the potential is very huge. However, (railway projects in) other regions, such as Sumatra were also offered,” said Suprapto, spokesman for the Directorate General of Railway Affairs, in June 18, 2007. (*)
