Govt okays KPC?s plan to up capacity

Government has approved plan of East Kalimantan coal miner PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) to increase production capacity to 75 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources senior official Mangantar Marpaung told McCloskey Asia Pacific Coal Outlook Conference 2009 in Bali that KPC?s current production capacity in 45 MTPA.

He did not give detail when the production capacity increase will be achieved.

A KPC official said the company will increase production capacity in stages. ?The time line is being planned,? the official said.

The official also said that next year KPC will likely increase production to 44 MT from 39 MT this year.

The official said that Japan, Taiwan and China would be KPC?s biggest market.

KPC is a unit of IDX-listed mining giant PT Bumi Resources Tbk. (denny)
