Govt opens bid for 23 new oil, gas blocks

The government will start soon open the tender for 23 new offshore and onshore oil and gas blocks, according to a press release issued by the ministry of mineral resources and energy Tuesday.
The 23 oil and gas blocks are located in Makassar Strait, Arafuru Sea, Seram Sea, Natuna Sea, offshore East Kalimantan, offshore East Java, and onshore Central Kalimantan and South Sulawesi.
The statement said that these were the new oil and gas blocks to be offered this year in a bid to boost reserves, and oil and gas production.
The statement said that in the first stage, six blocks in Makassar Strait, two in Bawean blocks, 11 blocks off the coast of East Java, and one in the Nila block off the cost of West Natuna Sea would be opened for tender.
The bid invitation would be issued on March 1, 2001, and bid information and document can already be obtained on March 12, 2001 at the office of the directorate general of oil and gas with the address at Plaza Centris on Jalan HR Rasuna Kav B5 street, South Jakarta or via Web address at www.indigopool.com.
The new bid of the oil and gas blocks would be started in June, the statement said.
The statement said that the winner of the bid would be decided by the ministry of mineral resources and energy, and after the approval of the President, the winning bidder would enter into a production sharing contract with the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina.(*)
