The government plans to appoint state-owned construction companies to develop 13 water dams for electricity production with total capacity of 28.34 MW, Bisnis Indonesia reported Thursday.
Minister of Public Works Basuki Hadimuljono said the planned dams will be scattered in East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Central Java, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Aceh, Bali, and South Kalimantan.
Total investment is projected at Rp 11.86 trillion.
Basuki said a presidential decree to directly appoint the state firms, thus avoiding lengthy tender process, is being drafted. Construction is expected to start this year. (*)
