The government plans to reorganize coal ports scattered in producing regions in the country in a bid to curb illegal shipment and help ensure better revenue for the state.

Director General of Coal and Mineral R. Sukhyar said that a revamp of the coal ports in the country is necessary to help better monitor shipment and collection of data by the government. He said that in the current condition were each coal miners have their own ports, monitoring is quite difficult.

Sukhyar said that going forward, coal shipment will only be allowed to be made via designated ports where the government has put in place customs officials. He cited as an example that coal ports owned by coal miners holding the PKP2B coal contracts of work which meet the required standard can be used for shipment including by other smaller miners.

?Currently, it?s difficult to detect the origin of the coal. Going forward, the number of official ports will be simplified. There will be no more illegal ports,? he said on Monday, but declined to provide details about the plan. (*)
