The government is currently preparing a one-stop mineral and coal mining licensing system engaging several related government offices including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Forestry, and the Investment Coordinating Board.
Director General of Coal and Mineral Thamrin Sihite at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said over the weekend the one-stop licensing system would help ease investors in obtaining mining licenses, which in turn would help increase investment in the sector.
He said that the one-stop licensing system would only be applied once the lingering problem of overlapping concessions/licenses and land conflict have been resolved. He added that the ministry is currently continuing efforts to upgrade its data on mining areas to help realize the planned new licensing system.
