Govt preparing FIT for solar energy

The government may set a feed in tariff (FIT) for electricity generation from solar energy at 24 US cent per kWh to support the development of the industry.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Rudi Rubiandini said as reported by Investor Daily that the tariff was not yet final, pending discussions with Ministry of Finance and investors at the industry.

Rudi said an attractive pricing mechanism is one key factor to speed up the development of renewable sources of energy in the country.

"In the development of renewable energy, Brazil has set a good example. Renewable energy in its energy mix has now reached 35 percent, as against 5 percent here," said Rudi.(*)
