Govt promises to further improve seismic data

The government has promised to further improve seismic data, saying that it has allocated a total fund of Rp 100 billion to conduct 2D seismic survey as part of efforts to improve the quality of oil and gas data in order to encourage investments in the Indonesian oil and gas industry.
The energy and mineral resources ministry?s Oil and Gas Director General A. Edy Hermantoro said in Jakarta on Thursday that the 2D seismic survey would cover an area of 4.000 kilometer in Salawati Bay and 9 kilometer by the ministry?s Geological Agency in the border area with the Philippines.
He said that if the survey conducted well, in 2014 Indonesia will have additional quality data of oil and gas resources in Indonesia.
According to him, the 2D seismic survey is a good one, as can be seen in the oil and gas reserves in the fields of Gendalo and Jangkrik. Both of the fields are two examples showing the good quality of 2D seismic surveys.
He said that Indonesia was still in a conducive condition for investments in the oil and gas industry. This can be seen through the fact that many proposals for joint study received by the government. ?Until now, we?ve got 49 proposals for new investments. They are from local and foreign companies targeting onshore and offshore fields across Indonesia,? he said.
