Govt queries gold and coal mining investment plans: Repeat

Geology and Mineral Resources Director General Wimpy S. Tjetjep said last year?s transfer of authority over COW and CCOW investments from the central government to provincial administrations had caused worries among the contract applicants.
The 14 applicants comprise 13 gold investments and 1 coal investment, Wimpy said.
?They had applied for COW and CCOW investments to the government, but later they suspended their applications following the implementation of the regional autonomy law,? Wimpy told reporters in a news conference.
?Now, with the issuing of government regulation No. 75/2001, we have sent them a letter to ask them whether they are still interested in new investments in the mining sector,? Wimpy said.
Under the new government rule, licenses for mining companies will be issued by the regent or mayor if the mine is in their area while the provincial governor will have the authority if the mining area covers several regencies.
Wimpy did not mention the names of the 14 investors, but a senior official at Wimpy?s office, Mahyudin Lubis, said separately that they were from Canada and Australia as follows:
? Twin Gold Corp and Voisey Bay Res. Inc. which cooperates with PT Dharmatama Saputra Mining, for 19,230 hectares of gold mining project in the Barito regency in East Kalimantan.
? Twin Gold Saan Mining Corp which teams up with PT Narima Pasir Laut, for a gold mining project on 62,072 hectares of land in the Ketapang and Sintang regencies in West Kalimantan.
? Twin Gold Layuh Mining Corp which had applied for 68,670 hectares of land for a gold mining project in the Ketapang and Sintang regencies in West Kalimantan, in cooperation with with PT Kalimantan Tambang Inti Utama.
? Elemental Mining Corp which cooperates with PT Guci Sinar Bestari and PT Sardo Kreasi Teknido for a gold mining project in the Ketapang and Sintang, West Kalimantan which covers 68,870 hectares of land.
? Elemental Mining Corp, in cooperation with PT Guci Sinar Bestari and PT Sardo Kreasi, for 98,890 hectares of land for a gold mining operation in the West Kotawaringin, East Kotawaringin and Sintang regencies in West Kalimantan.
? Framework Development Limited which teams up with PT Sungai Mendawai Mas, for a gold mining project on 53, 230 hectares of land in the Kutai (East Kalimantan) and North Barito (Central Kalimantan) respectively.
? Petromin Resc. Ltd which cooperates with Indo Pacific resc. Inc. and PT Panca Mineratama, for a gold mining operation on 71,360 hectares of land in the North Bengkulu regency in Bengkulu.
? Western Premium Resc.Corp, in cooperation with PT Gucisinar Nusantara and PT Sardo Kreasi Teknindo, for a gold mining project covering 27,220 hectares of land in the Kutai regency in East Kalimantan.
? Breet Resc. Ltd which teams up with PT Sinar Mahakam Utama Mining, for a gold mining operation in the Sintang regency in West Kalimantan, covering 101,800 hectares of land.
? Twin Gold Corp and Voisey Bay Resc. Inc, in cooperation with PT Sinar Gemilang Kalimantan Mining, for a gold mining project on 34,170 hectares of land in the North Barito regency (E. Kalimantan) and the Kutai regency (C. Kalimantan).
? Antares Mining & Expl.Corp, Coleville Resc. Ltd, in cooperation with with PT Kurnia Dwipa Kencana, for a gold mining project in the North Lampung regency in Lampung, which covers 31,700 hectares of land.
? Diadem Resc. Ltd which cooperates with PT Adriant Trading & Engineering, for tin and gold mining projects on 57,850 hectares and 58,590 hectares of land, respectively, in the Belitung regency in Bangka-Belitung.
? BHP Mineral Holding PTY. Ltd & BHP Mineral Asia Pacific PTY Ltd, for a coal mining project in the North Barito regency in Central Kalimantan, which covers 120,200 hectares of land. (godang/alex)
