The Ministry of Trade on June 2 issued a new regulation imposing tighter requirements on the import of alloy steel in a bid to help protect national industry.

The ministry said in a statement Thursday that the Minister of Trade Regulation No 28/M-DAG/PER/6/2014, which is valid until December 31, 2016, was issued in response to suggestion from the Ministry of Industry and complaints from domestic steel industry players on the import surge of alloy steel in the form of steel products with low boron contents to avoid from paying the anti-dumping duty.

?The main objective of the new ruling is to minimize unfair trade practice which could undermine the national steel industry,? said Director General of International Trade, Bachrul Chairi.
