The government is reviewing the contract between state oil and gas company Pertamina and El Nusa Petro Teknik (EPT) for the maintenance of the latter's refineries across the country, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said on Tuesday.

Purnomo said in a statement distributed during the House of Representatives' Commission VIII, which oversees among others mines and energy affairs that the government wanted Pertamina to gradually take over the maintenance works from EPT.

The daily maintenance of refineries would be handled by each refinery, while the overhaul will be tackled by a subsidiary to be established by Pertamina, Purnomo said.

He did not specify when Pertamina would establish the new subsidiary.

According to Pertamina data, EPT is owned by PT El Nusa Tbk (43 percent), PT El Nusa Harapan (37 percent), ministry-owned foundation Yayasan Pertambangan Energy (10 percent), Pertamina-owned foundations Yayasan Pekerja Pertamina (5 percent) Yayasan Tabungan Pertamina (5 percent).

El Nusa Tbk is 51.5 percent owned by Pertamina in a partnership with Tri Daya Esta (48.5 percent), which is controlled by former President Soeharto's son Bambang Trihatmodjo.

Legislators have accused EPT of having obtained contracts for the maintenance of Pertamina's refineries through corruption, collusive and nepotistic practices.

EPT employs 2,480 people, who are all Pertamina's workers. (Godang)
