The government has decided the tariffs for electricity produced from biomass-based power plants at between Rp 1,150 and Rp 1,990 per kWh, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
The paper quoted Director General of New and Renewable Energy Rida Mulyana as saying that a new Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources regulation on the electricity tariff from biomass power plants is expected to be issued in August of this year.
He explained that tariff in regions with lower dependency on petroleum fuel-based power plants such as Java will be lower at around Rp 1,150 per kWh, while regions with higher dependency on diesel fuel power plants such as in Papua will have a higher tariff of Rp 1,990 per kWh to help lure investment in biomass power plant development.
