Govt supports miners complying with environmental regulations

Environment Minister Balthasar Kambuaya said that his office would encourage operation of mining companies complying with environmental regulations to support the development of downstream business in mining in order to increase added value of mineral ores.

Balthasar said that the ministry would use "Proper" ranking to determine compliance level of mining company on regulation.

"We have "Proper" to measure their compliance on the environmental regulations. We do it annually," he told Petromindo.com at the State Palace.

So far, he said that the ministry has used the environmental impact assessment (AMDAL) as a guideline to monitor miners compliance with the regulations on environment sector.
